Design Your Own Sock-Yarn Shawl

In a couple of weeks, I'm going to be teaching a new class I'm super excited about: Design Your Own Sock-Yarn Shawl!

The class is going to cover how to design your own shawl, from start to finish. We are going to talk about yarn choice, stitch patterns, how to figure out how much yarn you're going to need for your shawl and much more. I have loved all the shawl design classes I have taken over the years and they all really helped me prepare for writing a whole book of shawl patterns. I'm very excited to pass what I have learned over the years to knitters who are ready to start designing their own shawls!

Here is the full class description from the Fuzzy Wuzzy Yarns website, where I will be teaching the class:

Jen Lucas, designer/author of one of the hottest new knitting books, Sock Yarn Shawls, will be teaching a Design Your Own Sock Yarn Shawl Workshop on Sunday, August 4, 2013 from 1 - 4 p.m. during this year's Chicago Yarn Crawl at Fuzzy Wuzzy Yarns!!!  Jen will guide you through all the steps from start to finish of designing your own shawl!  She will discuss different shawl constructions, how to get your chosen stitch pattern to work within the framework of the shawl shape you wish to use, and how to calculate how much yarn you will need for your design.  Students must know how to knit, purl, do increases and decreases, read patterns, read charts and be comfortable with basic lace techniques.  One three (3) hour workshop - $60.  Call the store at 847-253-9276 or email us at: info@fuzzywuzzyyarns.com to reserve your space in her class.

If you are in the area, I hope you can going me on the 4th.

Happy (shawl) knitting!

A Little Catch-Up

Oops. The last two and a half months flew by without a blog post. I swear, every time I try to commit to blogging more, I blog less. Maybe I should commit to blog less, and then I will blog more. I don't know, might work.

Anyway, lots of things have been happening over the last two months. How about some random pics to tell the story.

I released a couple new patterns.

and

I went to my first Blackhawks game.
I got some Periodic Table Toms and have been wearing them to work everyday since I got them. They are quite the hit in the lab.
I saw my book randomly at Barnes & Noble. I may have shed one single dramatic tear.
(no, I didn't bring my own copy and place it there, as my sister suggested...but I did move it to front & center once I found it!)

My family headed to Grand Rapids, MN last month for my brother's wedding. It was a blast!

My sister and I did the Dirty Girl 5K. Like last year, it was super fun! The before shot:
And, the after shot:
So muddy. And finally, last weekend, me, some of the knitters as well as some other friends and family celebrated the end of my BFF Jenni's bachelorette-hood. This is the only picture I can show you:
There were cupcakes topped with a certain male body part, but those photos are not appropriate for the blog. :)

Anyway, that's the highlights from the last two months. Hope everyone is having a good summer so far! What are you doing? What are you knitting?
